Sven Faller is internationally acclaimed for his melodic style and virtuosic skills on the acoustic and electric bass. His trio work with Philip Catherine and Paulo Morello, his duo with actor / flutist August Zirner and his collaborations with artists like Lisa Wahlandt, Mulo Francel and Nils Wülker have recently gained success and critical acclaim. Besides playing the bass and composing for these projects he has produced a number of well-received albums for them in his recording studio in rural Bavaria where he relocated from Munich in 2012.

As a bass player, Faller has succeeded in bringing the sensibility and flexibility of the jazz player to a wide variety of styles including pop, world music and songwriting, performing or recording with artists like Larry Coryell, Ulf Wakenius, Milton Nascimento, Rebekka Trescher, Robbie Ameen, Peter Gall, Anna Maria Sturm, Klaus Ignatzek, Mareike Wiening, Don Menza, Johannes Enders, Wolfgang Dauner, Rebekka Bakken, Judy Niemack, Wolfgang Haffner, Christian Elsässer Trio, Georg Ringsgwandl, Jenny Evans, Pippo Pollina, Chris Gall Trio, Peter Fulda, Jeanfrançois Prins, Evelyn Huber, Bernd Lhotzky, Birgit Minichmayr, Scott Hamilton and Charlie Mariano.

His format „Talk & Music“ combines intimate duo performances with conversation and has established itself in five locations since its inception in 2018. Guests have included well-known artists from the jazz- and world music scene like Céline Rudolph, Georg Ringsgwandl, Luis Borda, Cécile Verny, Viviane de Farias and Marialy Pacheco.

After bass studies at the conservatories of Linz and Munich, Faller took his degree in "Jazz And Contemporary Music" in 1997 from The Mannes College Of Music in New York City where he lived from 1994 to 2000. Besides being part of the New York club scene, performing with artists like Bobby Sanabria's AfroCuban Band (featuring Bobby Watson and Chico Freeman) and singer-songwriter Karen Atkins, he worked as a composer and music producer for Elias Associates NY (Elias Audio Branding). As a studio bassist he took part in more than sixty recording sessions alongside artists such as Randy Brecker, Blossom Dearie, Jane Monheit and Jim Beard.

After relocating to Germany in 2000 he became the acoustic and electric bass player for German singer-songwriter Konstantin Wecker, extensively touring and recording, including concerts at Philharmonic Halls in Munich, Berlin, Köln, Gewandhaus Leipzig and Alte Oper Frankfurt.

At the same time he continued his work as a composer, writing music for a number of films and commercials, including the award-winning station music for Showtime USA and MEGA TV Greece (Gold, New York Festivals) the children's series „Tiger, Bär und Antje“ (Janosch / ARD), and more recently the production of forties-style swing for the film „Die Freibadclique“ (ARD). His bass can also be heard in movies by Helmut Dietl, Doris Dörrie and Marcus H. Rosenmüller.

Since 2005 he started concentrating more and more on his own projects, performing at festivals and venues like Ronnie Scott’s / London, Sunset / Paris, Moods / Zürich, Musikverein / Wien, Esplanade Hall / Singapore, Tromsö Jazzfestival / Norway, Bahia Jazz Festival / Spain, TivoliVredenburg / Utrecht, Atomium Jazz / Brussels, Town Hall / Prague, CRR Concert Hall / Istanbul, Jazzfest Bonn, Südtirol Jazzfestival, Jazztage Dresden, Enjoy Jazz Festival / Mannheim, Porgy & Bess / Wien, Lana Meets Jazz Festival / Italy and IDee Jazz Festival / Estonia.

With his group Trio ELF (Eisenhauer / Lang / Faller), he explored the use of electronic effects on the acoustic bass, produced five albums for enja records and toured the US, Mexico and Greece between 2004 and 2015. Collaborations with Brazilian artists Marco Lobo and Milton Nascimento led to three tours in Brazil.

2016 saw the inception of „Night Music“, a double album featuring Bob Degen, Andreas Dombert and Guido May with an accompanying book of short stories. On stage, Faller combined storytelling, reading and music, a work that ultimately lead to his collaboration with actor August Zirner. In their programs „Coming Home“ and „MINGUS!“, both artists tell stories and perform corresponding duo pieces.

Recent collaborations also include work with the Andrea Hermenau Quintett that was nominated for the BMW World Jazz Award 2020 and Nils Wülker’s crossover program „Continuum“ that was recorded in 2022 with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester and has since been performed with orchestras such as NDR-Radiophilharmonie and Filmorchester Babelsberg.

As an educator, Faller has taught special classes at Western Oregon University, The Collective New York, University of Bahia in Brazil and the Universidad Panamericana in Mexico. From 2007-12 he taught at the Bass School Munich (BSM). 

For about ten years he has been teaching bass at the yearly summer workshops „Jazzakademie an der Nordsee“ in Jever and „Sommerakademie Neuburg an der Donau“ at which he also functions as artistic director for jazz.
